Radnor, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team secured their second win of the season this afternoon after knocking off No. 16 Lynchburg College by a 16-15 final.
Junior attack Jordan Krug scored the game-winning goal with just 24 seconds left to propel the Blue and White to the thrilling win.
The 2018 US Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year led the Cavs with three goals and a team high 5 points. Sophomore Matt LoParo tallied four points and two goals, while sophomore Jake Klein tied Krug with three goals of his own.
Matt Nestler picked up the victory in goal as the sophomore recorded nine saves.
Cabrini jumped out to a 4-1 advantage after the first quarter thanks to goals from senior Ethan Trusty, junior Bill Morgan, sophomore Ty Kostack and Klein.
The Hornets responded with four straight goals to steal the lead at 5-4 with just under seven minutes left in the half.
Back-to-back goals from junior Nicholas Waligurski sparked the Cavs as Loparo and Klein followed with two goals of their own to reclaim the lead at 8-5. A late goal from Lynchburg's Evan Lombardo with 33 seconds left trimmed the Cavs lead to 8-6 heading into the intermission.
The Blue and White extended their lead to 14-10 at the end of the third, highlighted by a pair of goals from Krug and LoParo in the span of just nine seconds.
Lynchburg mounted a fourth quarter rally as they evened things at 15 apiece with just 1:13 the play courtesy of another Lombardo goal out of a timeout.
Senior Riley Michaels came up big in the ensuing faceoff as gave sophomore Kevin Leyden a chance to corral the loose ball and quickly get it into Lynchburg's zone to call a timeout. Coming out of the break, Kostack found Krug just to the right of the net for the game clinching goal with just 24 seconds remaining.
Cabrini will get a short break as they next host Dickinson College on Saturday, March 3rd at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 1pm.
