Defense Seals 13-11 Win over #13 Dickinson

RADNOR, PA – With the score tied at 11 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Cabrini defense took over the game, as the No. 8 Cavaliers scored a 13-11 win over No. 13 Dickinson today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

With the win, the Blue and White improve to 3-0 on the year, while handing the Red Devils their first loss in three outings.

The Blue and White shut out the nation's fourth ranked scoring offense in the fourth quarter, while juniors Jordan Krug and Nicholas Waligurski scored the game's final goals in the fourth quarter.

Junior Riley White anchored the Cabrini defensive effort, as the junior recorded seven of his career high 19 saves in the final 15 minutes. White also shared team high honors with five ground balls.

Junior Timmy Brooks and sophomore Matt LoParo paced the Cabrini offensive attack, combining for 25 shots. Brooks paired three goals and three assists, while LoParo added three goals and two helpers. Krug finished the day with two goals. Including the game-winner, while sophomore Tyler Kostack notched two helpers.  

Junior Nick Vass and sophomore Tommy DeLuca caused two turnovers, while DeLuca and sophomore Bobby Cressman joined White with five ground balls.

Dickinson jumped to an early lead, but the Cavaliers answered just 22 seconds later on Krug's unassisted goal. The teams alternated goals through the rest of the period, with Brooks and LoParo marking the scoring column for Cabrini, as the teams remained tied at 3-3 after 15 minutes.

Kostack connected with Brooks early in the second quarter to give Cabrini a 4-3 lead, but Red Devils' senior Dylan Maher recorded two goals in 11 seconds to put Dickinson back in the lead.

The advantage was short lived, as junior Sean Wagner evened the score at the 10:13 mark and sparked four consecutive goals for the Cavaliers. Sophomore Mike Gerzabek's goal gave the Blue and White an 8-5 cushion with 4:04 left in the quarter.

Dickinson netted the final two goals of the period, cutting Cabrini's lead to 8-7 at the break.

Both teams exchanged goals in the first four minutes of the third quarter, with sophomore Jake Klein's goal extending Cabrini's lead with 10-8 with 11:06 left in the frame. The Red devils responded once again, posting back to back goals to even the score at 10 at the 5:15 mark.

Brooks and LoParo connected for the second time to put the Cavaliers ahead 11-10 with 92 seconds left in the period, but Dickinson forced the day's seventh tie on senior Tyler Strod's goal with just 13 seconds left in the quarter.

Krug broke the dead lock less then two minutes into the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal.

Nursing a one goal lead, White and the Cabrini defense took over. The Cavaliers fought off 12 fourth quarter shots from Dickinson and a one minute man-down situation to keep its one goal advantage.

Waligusrski sealed the win with 2:29 to play, as he turned a Brooks pass into his third goal of the season.

Maher and Strods scored four goals each for Dickinson and joined sophomore Cole Pellicano and juniors Jack Doran and Nate Usich with four ground balls each.  Usich also caused a pair of turnovers, while Pellicano recorded eight first half saves.

Cabrini will return to action on Wednesday, as it hosts Hampden-Sydney College (3-2). The opening faceoff is slated for 4pm.
