No. 6 Men's Lacrosse Scores 11-6 Win at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, MD – The Cavaliers overcame an early deficit and an upset-minded Frostburg State club today, scoring an 11-6 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Junior Timmy Brooks paced the No. 6 Cavaliers with five points on four goals and an assist, while classmate Jordan Krug added three goals.   Sophomores Jake Klein, Ty Kostack and Matt LoParo added two points apiece, combining for a two goal and four helpers.

Junior goaltender Riley White posted his second consecutive impressive outing, recording 15 saves and five ground balls.  Senior Zack Gregory and sophomore Kyle Myers accounted for four of the Blue and White's eight caused turnovers.

The Cavaliers built an early lead on goals by Krug and Kostack, but the Bobcats answered back immediately, netting three goal in a two minute span. Frostburg carried its 3-2 lead through the end of the first quarter, outshooting Cabrini 10-6 in the opening 15 minutes.

The Blue and White turned the game in its favor in the second quarter, recording 13 shots to just four for Frostburg.

Krug evened the score at the 9:14 mark, with Klein giving the Cavaliers the lad just 62 seconds later. Frostburg's Paul Ruppert scored the first of his two goals on the day to even the score at 4-4, but goals from Brooks and junior Sean Wagner put the Cavaliers ahead for good.

The Blue and White held its 6-4 halftime lead through much of the third period before a Bobcats' goal cut Cabrini's lead in half with 6:39 left in the quarter. The Cavaliers pulled away in the final 2:29 of the quarter, netting four unanswered goals.

Junior Nick Waligusrki hit Brooks to regain the Blue and White's two goal cushion. Krug's third goal of the afternoon pushed the lead to 8-5, before senior Riley Michaels won the ensuing faceoff and hit Brooks for a goal six seconds later.  Gregory continued the four goal run with nine seconds left in the frame, sending Cabrini into the fourth with a commanding 10-5 lead.

The Cavaliers made the lead stand, as White recorded five of his 15 saves in the fourth quarter, while Brooks closed the Cabrini scoring.

Brooks and Krug accounted for 19 of Cabrini's 38 shots on the day, as the team outshot the Bearcats 38-29.

Ruppert scored two goals for Frostburg State (2-4), while goaltender Jack Marks recorded 14 saves and scooped five ground balls.

The Blue and White will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday, as they host No. 14 Ohio Wesleyan (5-1). Game time is slated for 4pm.
