No. 5 Men's Lacrosse Finds Its Offense in 19-12 Win at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team found its offensive rhythm early and scored often, as the No. 5 Cavaliers scored a 19-12 victory at Ursinus College.

The Blue and White marked the scoring column at least four times in each quarter, as it improved to 6-0 on the season.

Cabrini counteracted a season-high 19 turnovers with a season-high 19 goals. Sophomore Matt LoParo led the attack with nine points on seven goals and two assists.

Junior Jordan Krug added a season best five goals, while classmate Timmy Brooks matched Krug's five points with three goals and two helpers. Senior Zack Gregory and sophomore Ty Kostack also recorded two goals in the win.

Brooks and senior Riley Michaels earned team-high honors with five ground balls each, one more than junior Sean Wagner and sophomore Tommy DeLuca. Wagner also caused a pair of Ursinus turnovers, one of 10 Cavaliers to cause a Bears' miscue.

Junior goaltender Riley White earned the victory with 15 saves, his third game with at least 15 saves. Sophomore Matt Nestler and junior Cassius Christie also saw action in the Blue and White cage.

The Cavaliers jumped to an early lead, as Brooks netted the first of his three first quarter goals 15 seconds after the opening whistle.  The junior recorded the game's first three goals, with Cabrini taking a 4-0 lead on Gregory's unassisted tally with 65 seconds left in the frame.

Ursinus got on the board in the final seconds of the first quarter, but trailed 4-1 after 15 minutes of play.

The goals came fast in the opening minutes of the second, as the teams combined for six goals in the just over four minutes of the quarter, including four in a span of 61 seconds.

Four of those goals came from the sticks of Krug and LoParo, as the Cavaliers pushed their lead to 9-3. LoParo finished the period with five goals, helping Cabrini extend its lead to 12-5 at the half.

The Blue and White never allowed the Bears to get back into the game, as Cabrini's lead grew as large as 16-6 on LoParo's seventh goal with 11:57 to play in the fourth.

Bobby McClure led Ursinus (1-5) with five goals, while Hakan Atillasoy added three goals. Nick Kirk and Elliott Shevitz combined for eight saves for the Bears.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Friday night, as they make the drive south to Owings Mills, MD to face No. 19 Stevenson University (0-4). The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7pm.
