OWINGS MILLS, MD – The Cavaliers' season-opening win streak came to an end tonight, as the Cabrini men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-10 loss at Stevenson University.
The loss drops the No. 3 Blue and White to 6-1 on the season, while the Mustangs scored their first victory of 2018.
The Cavaliers struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the early going, recording just five shots in first quarter. Stevenson took advantage, scoring four goals on its 15 first period shots.
The Mustangs took an early lead, notching the game's first goal after 66 seconds. Sophomore
Ty Kostack put the Blue and White on the board, but Stevenson responded with three unanswered goals. Junior
Jordan Krug's unassisted goal ended the Mustang's scoring run and pulled Cabrini to 4-2 after 15 minutes.
Stevenson extended its lead in the second frame, as it converted its 10 shots into six goals, building a 10-3 lead with 4:29 left in the half. Sophomore
Jake Klein recorded his second goal of the quarter in the final minute of the period, sending the Cavaliers into the halftime break trailing 10-4.
Cabrini began to mount a comeback in the third, as Krug and sophomore
Matt LoParo combined for three goals in the quarter. The sophomore's second tally of the frame came in the final minute of the frame, cutting Stevenson's lead to 11-7 entering the fourth quarter.
Kostack added another notch in the scoring column in the opening minute of the final period, but the Mustangs responded with two goals to re-establish their five goal cushion with 12:34 to play.
The sophomore completed his hat trick with a man-up goal at the 10:29 mark, while classmate
Kevin Leyden cut the Cabrini deficit back to 13-10 with nine minutes to play, but Leyden's goal would be the final of the night for the Cavaliers.
After recording just five shots in the opening period, the Cavaliers finished the night with 42 shots, five more than the Mustangs. Kostack led Cabrini with 10 shots, two more than LoParo and three more than Krug.
Kostack paced the Blue and White attack with three goals and an assist, while Klein, Krug and LoParo added two goals each.

JT Thelen led Stevenson with five goals and a helper, while Justin Burnette went 19-26 at the faceoff spot with seven ground balls.
The Cavaliers have little time to dwell on tonight's setback, as they will open Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Cabrini will host Keystone College (0-4) at 1:30pm.
