RADNOR, PA – Men's basketball student-athlete
Tyheim Monroe headlines the
DIII News All-America Team, as the senior was named the publication's National Player of the Year today.
Monroe joins Aaron Walton-Moss, who earned the honor in 2015, as the only Cavaliers to receive the national honor from
DIII News.
Monroe adds this honor to All-America awards from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC),
D3hoops.com and Hero Sports.
A two-time CSAC Player of the Year, Monroe averaged 21.5 points and 14.7 rebounds, second in Division III. The senior also led the nation with 427 total rebounds, 10.86 defensive rebounds, 25 double-doubles and two triple doubles. He also ranked in the nation's top 25 in four other categories.
Monroe's 2017-18 performance ranked among the best in program and conference history. The forward's 624 points and 427 rebounds are the most in a single season in Cabrini history and ranks seventh and second in league history, respectively.
Last season's performance capped a record-breaking career for Monroe. The senior broke the CSAC career rebound record earlier in the season and closes his career as Cabrini's all-time leading scorer with 2,030 points, third on the league's career list.
No other active player in Division I, II or III has recorded more career rebounds (1,480), rebounds per game (13.7) or double-doubles (83) than Monroe.
Monroe and the Cavaliers finished the 2017-18 season with a 25-4 record, becoming the fifth team in program history to reach the 25-win mark. The club went 16-2 in league play and captured the team's 14th conference title.
The team closed its season after making its 14th NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the Big Dance's second round.
