RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season with today's convincing 27-2 win over the visiting Keystone College Giants in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Today's win improved the No. 3 Cavaliers to 7-1 and extends its NCAA record conference win streak to 109 games.
The Blue and White took control of the game from the opening whistle, as junior
Jordan Krug opened the scoring after just 21 seconds. Within three minutes, the Cavaliers owned a 4-0 lead and were off and running.
Cabrini outshot the Giants 21-1 in the first quarter and led 10-0 after 15 minutes of action. The lead swelled to 16-1 at the break, with 12 Cavaliers marking the scoring column.
In total, 14 Cavaliers recorded at least one goal with 15 players tallying at least one point. Freshman
Griffin Shira led the way with five goals, while junior
Timmy Brooks and sophomore
Ty Moschella added three each.
Freshman
Tyler McKee made the most of his collegiate debut, pairing two goals and three assists. Fellow rookies
Corey Carver,
Nick Matty,
Evan Trizonis and
Kyle Tucker also notched their first collegiate goals, with Carver, Trizonis and Tycker scoring two goals each.
Cabrini finished the day with a season-high 64 shots and scooped 51 ground balls.
The Blue and White went 26-33 at the faceoff spot, with freshman
Brian Hood winning 11 of his 14 chances and corralling a game-high nine ground balls. Carver and classmate
Behn Worley scooped four ground balls each, while freshman
Nate Brolsma matched Moschella with three caused turnovers.
Defensively, Cabrini forced 12 of the Giants' 23 turnovers on the day and held Keystone to just 7-33 n clear attempts.
Ivor Corlette and Caleb Strope scored for the Giants (0-5, 0-1 CSAC), while goaltenders Dean Orofino and Nicholas Vazquez combined for 15 saves.
The Cavaliers will step out of conference play on Tuesday, as they travel to Alexandria, VA to face Hampden-Sydney College (7-2). Game time is slated for 4pm at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School.
