Field Hockey Drops Season Opener

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team stumbled in today's 2018 season opener, as the Cavaliers fell to Haverford College 3-0 at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Junior goaltender Devon Scharf made the most of her first career start, as the junior notched 12 saves , including nine in the second half.

The Blue and White did its best to keep the Fords at bay, as the game remained scoreless until Haverford's Roxy Vasighi collected a loose ball and beat Scharf for the game's first tally.

Despite being outshot 11-2 in the opening 35 minutes, the Cavaliers trailed just 1-0 at the break.

Haverford doubled its lead in the 40th minute, as Kelsey Chai converted a penalty stroke for a 2-0 lead. The Fords added to their lead in the 60th frame on a Ravenel Davis tally.

Cabrini's defense fought off 15 Haverford penalty corners and 24 shots on the game.

Freshman Lauren Vanstone recorded two of the Cavaliers three shots in the loss, while sophomore Gabby Thompson added one.

The Blue and White has little time to regroup, as Cabrini welcomes Drew University (0-1) to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday. Game time is slated for 12 noon.
