Volleyball Rallies for 2 Wins at Neumann Invitational

ASTON, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team claimed a pair of wins tonight to open the Neumann University Knights Invitational.

The Cavaliers scored a hard fought 3-1 (25-11, 25-15, 18-25, 25-14) win over Haverford in the opener. The win marked the second for Cabrini over the Fords (2-8) in the last three days.

The Blue and White built a 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) lead in the nightcap, before Scranton stormed back to even the match at 2-2 (21-25, 13-25). The Cavaliers never trailed in the deciding fifth set, claiming a 15-11 win in the fifth to down the Royals (8-4).

Cabrini's third and fourth consecutive wins improved the club to 4-5 overall.

Sophomore Steph Jenkins and junior Katrina Shelly paced the Blue and White today's opener, combining for 35 kills. Judkins paired 21 kills and 10 digs, while Shelly added 14.

Senior Emily Shannon also recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Amelia Ballard barely missed the mark, pairing 22 assists and nine digs.

Senior Ashley Shannon earned match-high honors with 26 digs, while freshman Gina Custer chipped in with 12 digs. Ballard also joined fellow freshman Hannah Dalton with three service aces each, with classmate Marie Hamilton tallying three total blocks.

Judkins and Dalton provided the sparks for the Cabrini attack in the five set victory over Scranton, as the sophomore scored a match-high 17 kills, while the rookie added 14. Shelly chipped in with nine kills, two more than Hamilton.

Emily Shannon recorded her second double-double of the night, pairing 16 assists with 14 digs. Ballard added 25 assists, while Ashley Shannon led the Blue and White with 16 digs.

Dalton assisted the defensive effort with three solo blocks, while classmate Gina Custer added three service aces to her 13 digs.

The Cavaliers (4-5) have little time to enjoy tonight's victories as they will face two more tough opponents on Saturday's second day the invitational.  Cabrini will face Salisbury (8-4) at 10am and Moravian (6-6) at 2pm in Aston, PA.
