Field Hockey Offense Silenced at Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD – The Cabrini field hockey faced its second consecutive top 15 ranked opponent tonight, as the Cavaliers traveled south to face No. 6 Salisbury University.

The Blue and White fell to 1-4 on the year after tonight's 5-0 loss, while the Sea Gulls improved to 5-1.

The Sea Gulls built an early lead, scoring the game's opening goal in the ninth minute before doubling their lead in the 25th minute.

Despite fighting off 16 Salisbury shots and seven penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes, the Cavaliers trailed just 2-0. Junior goaltender Devon Scharf kept the Blue and White in the game, recording six of her career high 15 saves before the halftime break.

Salisbury showed no let-up in the second half, keeping Cabrini on the defensive throughout the final 35 minutes.

The Sea Gulls netted three goals on 19 second half shots and added seven more penalty corners.

Scharf continued her solid play after the break, recording nine saves. Classmate Noelia Ramirez added three saves in six minutes of second half relief, while sophomore Emily Manda notched her seventh defensive save of the season.

Cabrini never developed any sustained offense, as it failed to attempt a shot, while the Sea Gulls totaled 35, including 24 shots on target.

The Cavaliers will look to snap its current three game losing skid on Wednesday, when they host Stevens Institute of Technology (3-3).  Game time is set for 4pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
