RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team extended its win streak to seven matches with tonight's hard fought 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-23) victory over Moravian College.
Today's victory marked the Cavaliers' second win over the Greyhounds in four days and improved the club to 7-5 on the season.
Junior
Katrina Shelly and sophomore
Steph Judkins led the Blue and White with 11 kills each. Freshman
Amelia Ballard scored 18 assists and matched Judkins with eight digs.
Senior
Emily Shannon stuffed the stat sheet with six kills, 17 assists and match high 13 digs.
The first set was as tight as it could get, featuring seven lead changes and 11 ties. Cabrini led by as many as four points at 21-17, but the Greyhounds raced back to take a 24-23 lead. Both teams exchanged the lead before a pair of Moravian errors gave the Cavaliers a 28-26 opening set victory.
Moravian grabbed control of the second frame, building a 14-10 lead. Minutes later, the Cavaliers tallied seven consecutive points to regain the set's momentum and a 19-15 lead. The Blue and White never looked back, as a Judkins service ace sealed a 25-19 second set win for Cabrini.
Both teams evenly split the first 22 points of the third set before five consecutive Moravian points put the Greyhounds in control of the action. Cabrini slowly chipped away at its deficit. Trailing 20-16, a kill by freshman
Hannah Dalton seemed to change the momentum.
The Blue and White recorded seven on the next eight points, including a pair of
Emily Shannon service aces, to grab a 23-21 lead. The Greyhounds responded with back to back kills to pull even at 23, but successful attacks by senior
Kassie Ockford and Shelly completed the 25-23 third set victory.
Seniors Brooke Kusmider and Erin Tiger led Moravian (6-9) with 11 kills each, while junior setter Victoria Kauffman notched 32 assists. Sophomore Jasmine Pavlinsky and junior Alexis Szaro combined for 24 digs in the loss.
The Cavaliers will put their win streak on the line on Friday, as they head to Galloway, NJ for the Stockton University Osprey Classic. Cabrini will face Catholic (10-3) and Springfield (9-0) on Friday, before facing the host Stockton (8-4) and Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (4-9) on Saturday.
