GALLOWAY, NJ – The Cabrini volleyball team pushed its current win streak to nine matches tonight with a pair of hard fought 3-0 victories tonight at the Stockton University Ospreys.
The Cavaliers improved to 9-5 on the year with victories over Catholic University and Springfield College.
Senior
Emily Shannon entered the Blue and White record book in tonight's first match. With 13 digs in Cabrini's 26-24, 25-13, 25-20 win over Catholic (11-4), the senior became the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 career digs.
Sophomore
Steph Judkins paced the Cavaliers offense in the opener, recording a match-high 18 kills against just four errors.
Shannon added 14 assists, five kills and five block assists to her 13 digs, while classmate
Ashley Shannon recorded 16 digs.
Freshman
Amelia Ballard notched 17 assists, while fellow rookie
Gina Custer tallied 11 digs.
The Blue and White anchored its defensive effort at the net, posting 16 total blocks, its most since scoring 13 blocks in a 3-0 win over Marywood on Oct. 9, 2010.
Freshman
Hannah Dalton led the way with 7.5 total blocks, including four of the single variety, while freshman
Marie Hamilton joined
Emily Shannon with 2.5 total blocks each.
The Cavaliers continued their momentum as they topped tough Springfield (10-2) squad 25-17, 26-24, 28-26.
Judkins and junior Katrina Kelly dominated the offense, posting 22 and 14 kills, respectively. Dalton added eight kills, two more than
Emily Shannon.
Shannon nearly recorded a triple double, adding 23 assists and eight digs to her stat line.
Ballard fell just shy of a double-double with 19 assists and nine digs, while
Ashley Shannon earned match-high honors with 16 digs, three more than Custer.
The Blue and White will face another pair of tough opponents in Saturday's action, as it will face the host Ospreys (10-4) at 11am and Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (4-11) at 1pm.
