RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini volleyball team scored a hard fought 3-0 win over the visiting Widener University Pride tonight, improving to 16-11 on the season.
The Cavaliers displayed a balanced attack in the 25-22, 26-24, 25-15 victory, hitting .280 on the night, the club's second highest percentage of the season.
Sophomore
Steph Judkins paced the offense, pairing a match-high 18 kills, 13 digs and three service aces for her eighth double-double of the season. Junior
Katrina Shelly added 14 kills, one off her season-high.
Senior
Emily Shannon matched Judkins with a double-double, earning team-high honors with 20 digs to go with 17 assists. Freshman
Amelia Ballard notched 20 helpers, while senior
Ashley Shannon recorded 18 digs.
The Cavaliers built an early lead in the opening set, establishing an 11-3 advantage before the Pride rallied to even the score at 11. The set remained tight until a kill by freshman
Hannah Dalton broke a 22-22 deadlock and spurred the Blue and White to an opening set win.
Widener grabbed a three point lead early in the second frame. Despite leveling the set at eight, Cabrini could not grab the lead. Both teams battled in the set's late stages, as the score was tied at 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23.
A kill by freshman Shelby Motz gave the Pride a 24-23 lead, but a Cabrini time out refocused the Cavaliers. Another timely Dalton kill evened the score at 24, before a Judkins kill gave the Blue and White set point. Dalton put an end to the frame on her next serve with an ace.
The Cavaliers carried the momentum from their second set comeback into the final set, building an early 6-1 lead. The Pride pulled to within 12-9 on a service ace by sophomore Sydney Nichols but Cabrini responded with four consecutive points and cruised to a 25-15 win in the third.
Sophomore Claire Kaufmann led the Pride (9-11) with 12 kills, while junior Ashley McAfee recorded 27 digs.
Prior to tonight's match,
Emily Shannon was recognized, as the senior became the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 career digs on Friday.
The Cavaliers will have little time to enjoy tonight's win, as they will return to action on Friday. Cabrini will host Swarthmore (10-2) in nonconference action at 7pm in Nerney Field House.
