Defense Secures Field Hockey Win at Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, PA – The Cavaliers scored their second consecutive win today, as the Cabrini field hockey team topped former Colonial States Athletic Conference rival 1-0 in Allentown.

With the win, the Blue and White improve to 3-5 on the season.

Despite outshooting the Falcons 8-0 in the opening 35 minute period, the Cavaliers could not find their way onto the score board.

Cabrini finally broke through the Cedar Crest defense in the 51st minute, when freshman Lindsey Pozaic recorded her first career goal.

Holding the 1-0 lead, the Cavaliers turned their attention to the defensive end, as Cabrini notched just one more shot over the game's final 20 minutes.

The Blue and White fought off 10 second half penalty corners and five of the Falcon's eight shots after the break.

Sophomores Trisha Billig and Gabby Thompson led the Cavaliers with three shots each, while junior goaltender Devon Scharf recorded all three of her saves in the second half to secure her second shutout of the season.

Brice Gardner and Alexx Miller attempted two shots each for Cedar Crest (2-5), while goaltender Cassandra Reijgers stopped five Cabrini shots.

The Cavaliers will begin a new chapter in program history on Tuesday, when it travels to Dover, DE. To face Wesley College (4-6) in Cabrini's first ever Atlantic East Conference contest.  The opening whistle is scheduled for 7pm.
