GETTYSBURG, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team fell behind in the early minutes and never recovered, as the Cavaliers suffered a 6-2 loss at Gettysburg College today. The loss dropped the Blue and White to 1-2 overall, while the Bullets improved to 2-1.
Gettysburg put the Cavaliers in an early hole, scoring in the fourth and 11th minutes of the game. The Bullets carried their 2-0 lead into the halftime break, as they outshot the Blue and White 16-1 in the first half and forced nine penalty corners to none for Cabrini.
The Bullets continued to control the action, extending their lead just 3:33 into the second half before pushing their lead to 6-0 in the 60th minute.
The Cavaliers marked the scoring column in the final minutes, as freshman
Kelly Sweeney corralled a loose ball in front of the Gettysburg net and recorded her first career goal in the 66th minute.
Sophomore
Trisha Billig added to the Cabrini score sheet in the 69th minute with her second goal in as many games.
Junior goaltender
Devon Scharf notched nine saves in the loss, while sophomore defender
Emily Manda posted two defensive saves. Billig accounted for two of Cabrini's seven shots on the day and joined Sweeney with the team's only shots on target.
Emma Bartrando and Julia Soares accounted for 18 shots for the Bullets, while Allison Cavicchio paired two goals and two assists.
The road gets no easier for the Cavaliers, as they will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday, as they host Rowan University (3-0). Game time is set for 4pm.
