RADNOR, PA – After falling behind in the first half, the Cabrini field hockey team found its offensive rhythm in the second half, but it was too late, as the Cavaliers fell to the Alvernia University Golden Wolves 3-1 today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The nonconference loss dropped the Blue and White to 2-11 on the season, while Alvernia improved to 8-7.
While the Blue and White did not record a shot in the opening 30 minutes, its defense stood strong, holding the Golden Wolves to attempt just five shots.
Alvernia broke through the Cabrini defense midway through the first quarter, as Erica Groves found Felecia Getz on the post for the game's first goal.
The Golden Wolves added to their lead in 17th minute, when junior Morgan Mondschein's diving attempt fount the back of the cage.
The Cavaliers turned up their offensive pressure in the second half. The Blue and White controlled the ball much of the third and fourth quarters, surrendering just one shot.
Unfortunately for Cabrini, Alvernia's lone second half shot found the back of the cage in the 32nd minute, pushing the visitor's advantage to 3-0.
After not recording a shot before the halftime break, the Cavaliers recorded a pair of shots in the third quarter and four in the fourth.
Cabrini finally broke through in the game's final minute, as junior
Gabby Thompson collected a loose ball in front of the Alvernia goal for her second goal of the season.

Trisha Billig matched Thompson with two shots on the day, while senior goaltender
Noelia Ramirez notched one save.
Getz recorded three of Alvernia's six shots on the day, while senior goaltender Emma Beamesderfer recorded four second half saves.
The Cavaliers will return to Atlantic East Conference action on Saturday, as they play host to defending conference champion Wesley (8-4, 1-0 Atlantic East). Game time is slated for 12pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
