Field Hockey Falls in Play 4 the Cure Game

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team fell to 1-2 in the Atlantic East Conference after today's 2-0 loss to Wesley College at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Today's action also marked the team's annual Play 4 the Cure game, benefiting the National Foundation for Cancer Research and its efforts to provide worldwide funding to fight cancer.

With the help of Play 4 The Cure and individual donors, NFCR has delivered over $350 million leading to many breakthroughs, including prevention strategies, earlier diagnosis and new anticancer drugs and therapies.

The day began with a long-time assistant women's lacrosse coach Melissa Michels addressing the Cavaliers on her health struggles and the importance of being a warrior on and off the field.

The Blue and White could not carry the vibes from Michels' presentation into the game, as the Wolverines opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Despite recording just three first half shots, the Cavaliers kept their offensive pressure on the strength of five first half penalty corners. The Blue and White could not convert on four corners in the second quarter, as Wesley carried its slim 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Wolverines sealed the win with a second goal in the 43rd minute. Cabrini could not sustain its first half offense, as it attempted just one shot in the third and fourth quarters.

Four Cavaliers recorded one shot each, with senior goaltender Noelia Ramirez posting three saves.

Kaial Hindt led Wesley (9-5, 2-1 Atlantic East) with five shots, while Kristen Fuhr and Julie Snow marked the scoring column.

The Cavaliers will step out of conference play on Wednesday, when they pay a visit to Susquehanna University (6-10, 3-2 Landmark). The opening whistle is scheduled for 4pm in Selinsgrove, PA.
