SELINSGROVE, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team closed its nonconference slate today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 6-1 loss at Susquehanna University.
The loss dropped the Blue and White to 2-13 on the season, while the River Hawks improved to 7-10.
The contest remained scoreless through much of the first quarter, but in the 12th minute, Hunter Pitman scored the game's first goal. Susquehanna doubled its lead just minutes later, as Kelsey Murray found Maddie Taylor.
Pitman added to the River Hawks' lead in the final minutes of the second quarter, scoring two goals in a two minute span.
The home squad extended its lead with goals in the 34th and 56th minutes.
Sophomore
Lauren Vanstone put the Cavaliers on the score board in the game's final minute with an unassisted tally, marking her first career goal and point.
The Cavaliers found themselves on the short end of a 20-8 tally in total shots, but just 12-7 in shots on goal. Susquehanna also forced seven penalty corners, just one more than Cabrini, who forced five in the final 15 minute period.
Vanstone led the Blue and White with a career best five shots, while freshman
Maura Tumelty added two. Senior goaltender
Noelia Ramirez posted six saves in the loss.
The Cavaliers will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday, when they host Marywood University (11-3, 3-0 Atlantic East). The opening whistle is slated for 12pm.
