Cavaliers Score Early, Fall at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ -  The Cavaliers could not maintain its early lead, as the field hockey team suffered a 7-1 loss at Stevens Institute tonight.  

The loss dropped the Blue and White to 1-9 on the season, while the Ducks improved to 8-3.

Freshman Maura Tumelty gave Cabrini the early lead, less than three minutes into the action. The rookie's second goal of the campaign marked just the third time this season the Cavaliers have been ahead on the scoreboard.

Stevens evened the score in the 10th minute before taking the lead for good in the opening minute of the second quarter. The Ducks added a third goal in the final minute of the first half, carrying a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.

Despite not recording a shot in the third quarter, the Cavaliers kept the game within reach and trailed 4-1 with 15 minutes to play.

Stevens put the game out of reach in the final stanza, netting three goals in a six minute span,.

Junior Trisha Billig accounted for a season high five of the Blue and White's 12 shots on the night, two more than Tumelty. Senior goaltender Noelia Ramirez posted 10 saves in the loss.

Michaela Thompson scored twice for Stevens, while Skylar Migliaccio and Emma Brunet added two assists each.

The Cavaliers will have a few days to regroup before opening Atlantic East Conference play next Wednesday when they visit Immaculata (5-7). Game time is slated for 6:30pm.
