IMMACULATA, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team shook off its recent struggles and scored a thrilling 2-1 overtime win at Immaculata to open Atlantic East Conference play.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Martin picked a great night to record her first career multi-goal game, as the sophomore tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted tally in the 48th minute.
Martin then added the game-winner in the 62nd minute, after initiating the Blue and White's seventh and final penalty corner of the night, converting a pass from rookie
Maura Tumelty.
The Cavaliers outshot the Mighty Macs 17-14 on the night and matched a season-high with 14 shots on goal. Tumelty led the way with nine shots, including seven on target, while Martin and classmates
Lauren Vanstone and
Lindsey Pozaic added two each.
After 35 scoreless minutes, Immaculata's Layne Kennedy put the home team on the board. The Mighty Macs carried their lead through the end of the third period, but just three minutes into the final stanza, Martin converted a penalty stroke to tie the game.
Both teams had shots on goal in the final minutes of regulation, but each goaltender posted saves to keep the score tied.

Noelia Ramirez finished the night with six saves, while Immaculata's Randie Kuhar notched 10 saves.
The Cavaliers (2-9, 1-0 Atlantic East) will look for its first consecutive wins of the season on Saturday, when they Neumann University (3-9, 0-1 Atlantic East) on Saturday. The opening whistle is slated for 12pm in Aston, PA.
