RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team fell just shy in its upset bid today, as the Cavaliers fell to the visiting Marywood Pacers 2-1 at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 2-14 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic East.
The Pacers (12-3, 4-0 Atlantic East) jumped on the board in the sixth minute, as Angela Sanchez deflected a pass from Lindsey Quinn. The visitors added to their lead six minutes later, as Lindsey
Gladden deposited a loose ball in front of the Cabrini cage.
The Cavaliers began to find some offense in the second quarter, forcing five penalty corners. Unfortunately, the Blue and White failed to convert any and went to the half trailing 2-0 despite outshooting Marywood 6-4.
The Blue and White maintained their offensive pressure in the third quarter, forcing eight more penalty corners.
The pressure paid off in the 35th minute, as junior
Shannon Agnew tipped in a loose ball for her first career shot and first career goal.
The Cavaliers continued to push for the game-tying goal, but could only muster three shots over the game's final 30 minutes.
Freshman
Olivia Sims accounted for three of Cabrini's nine shots on the day, one more than sophomores
Allison Martin and
Kaitlyn Martin.
Senior goaltender
Noelia Ramirez anchored the defensive effort with six saves.
The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Wednesday, when they host Gwynedd Mercy (8-9, 2-2 Atlantic East). The action will get underway at 7pm.
