Volleyball Conference Streak Snapped in Marymount Loss

ARLINGTON, VA – The Cabrini volleyball team saw its 68 match conference win streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 3-0 loss at Marymount University.

The Blue and White fell to 12-11 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic East Conference with the loss.

Senior Katrina Shelly and junior Steph Judkins paced the Cabrini offense in the 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 loss with 10 kills each. Shelly added eight digs, matching freshman Melanie Cotes-Rivera and sophomore Amelia Ballard.

Ballard and Cotes-Rivera also added 14 assists each, while sophomore Gina Custer led the Blue and White with 19 digs.

The Saints built a seemingly comfortable 19-12 cushion in the opening set, but the Cavaliers balled back, cutting their deficit to 23-21 on a block by sophomores Hannah Dalton and Marie Hamilton, but the visitors would come no closer.

Cabrini turned the tables in the second set, leading by as many as eight points at 19-11. Marymount stormed back, scoring 14 of the next 17 points, including the final sever points of the set.

The Cavaliers looked to extend the match in the third frame, but a 9-2 spurt midway through the set pushed the home team's lead to 14-8. The Blue and White never regained its momentum before the match ended.

Mykael Johnson and Caylee Shelton combined for 25 kills and 25 digs for the Saints (20-11, 6-0 Atlantic East).

The Cavaliers will look to rebound on Tuesday, when they visit Neumann (15-10, 4-1 Atlantic East). First serve is slated for 7pm in Aston, PA.
