Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss at Neumann

ASTON, PA – Three days after watching their conference win streak come to an end, the Cavaliers suffered their second consecutive league loss, falling to Neumann 3-1.

The loss evens Cabrini's record at 12-12 overall and 3-2 in the Atlantic East Conference. The loss snaps the Blue and White's 12 match win streak against the Knights and marks the first time since 2008 that the Cavaliers have lost multiple conference matches.

Four Cavaliers notched double-doubles in the 25-27, 28-26, 25-18, 25-22 loss.

Junior Steph Judkins earned match-high honors with a season-high 25 kills to go with 11 digs, while senior Katrina Shelly added 18 kills and 14 digs.

Sophomore Amelia Ballard paired 28 assists with 11 digs, while freshman Melanie Cotes-Rivera chipped in with 20 assists, 12 digs and three service aces.

Sophomore Gina Custer narrowly missed the milestone, tallying a team high 15 kills to go with eight assists.

After trailing 12-6, the Cavaliers rallied back in the first set to even the score at 16. The set remained tight, with both clubs exchanging the lead. A kill by sophomore Hannah Dalton evened the score at 24 and sparked a late 4-1 Cabrini spurt to end the opening frame.

The second set played much like the first, as both teams exchanged leads throughout much of the frame. The Cavaliers seemed to be in control with a 22-18 lead, but the Knights responded with six of the next eight points to even the score at 24. Neumann broke the tie with four of the next five points to even the match at 1-1.

The Knights carried their momentum into the third set, building an early lead and carrying it to a third set victory and a 2-1 lead.

The Blue and White looked to rally in the fourth set. After trailing early, the Cavaliers used a 9-2 run to build a 17-14 lead. Judkins' final kill of the night gave Cabrini a seemingly comfortable 22-19 lead, but the team could not hold their advantage, as Neumann rallied to score the final six points of the match.

Melanie Malseed led Neumann (16-10, 5-1 Atlantic East) with 20 kills and 16 digs.

The Cavaliers will close their Atlantic East Conference slate on Wednesday, when they head to Dover, DE to face Wesley College (13-12, 1-3 Atlantic East). First serve is scheduled for 7pm.

With a win, Cabrini can clinch the number three seed in the upcoming conference tournament and host a first round match on Tuesday.
