Vanstone Goal Sends Field Hockey to Tournament Semifinal

RADNOR, PA - Sophomore Lauren Vanstone scored the game-winning goal with just six seconds on the clock to send the Cabrini field hockey team to the semifinal round of the 2019 Atlantic East Conference Tournament.

With today's 3-2 win over Immaculata at Edith Robb Dixon Field, the Cavaliers will advance to Wednesday's semifinal round where they will visit either No. 1 seed Marywood or No. 2 seed Wesley.

After suffering a overtime loss in the first round of last year's Atlantic East Tournament, Wednesday will mark the Blue and White's first semifinal appearance in the two-year old league.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Mighty Macs jumped on tehboar first, as sophomore Macy Green's centering pass found senior Layne Kennedy in front of Cabrini's cage.

The Cavaliers got on the board midway through the third quarter, when sophomore Allison Martin punched the ball into the Immaculata cage after a scrum in front of the cage.

The sophomore added her second goal of the day in the 50th minute in similar fashion, giving the Cavaliers their first lead of the afternoon.

The lead was short-lived, as Immaculata junior Willa Thompson sent a crossing pass that Greene deflected into Cabrini's goal, leveling the score at 2-2 with less than seven minutes left in regulation.
With time dwindling and most fans expecting overtime, the Cavaliers struck again.

Following a restart, junior Shannon Agnew found Vanstone just inside the critical scoring area. Vanstone collected the ball, turned and fired the game-winning shot, a backhand shot inside the right post.

The Cavaliers owned a slim 14-12 advantage in shots, while forcing nine penalty corners to six for the visitors.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Martin led the Blue and White with four shots, while Vanstone added three.

Senior goaltender Noelia Ramirez posted with saves to earn the victory.

Senior Colleen Bradley joined Kennedy and Greene with three shots each for Immaculata (6-15). Junior netminder Randie Kuhar added four saves.
