No. 6 Men's Lacrosse Cruises to 20-6 Win over Ohio Wesleyan

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team scored early and often, as it rolled to a 20-6 victory over the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops this afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

With the win, the No. 6 Cavaliers improved to 6-0 on the season, the second consecutive year the team has opened the campaign with six consecutive victories.

Junior Tyler Kostack led the Blue and White with a career high seven goals. Classmate Jakob Klein paired three goals and two assists, while senior Nicholas Waligurski, junior Mike Gerzabek, sophomore Griffin Shira and freshman Konner Caplin scored two goals each.

Sophomore Luke McCallion dominated the faceoff spot, going 13-17 this afternoon with three ground balls and two assists. Junior Tommy DeLuca and sophomore Nick Werner caused two ground balls each and combined for seven ground balls.    

Senior goaltender Riley White scored the victory after notching seven saves and five ground balls in 45 minutes of action.

Cabrini seized control of the action in the early minutes, as Kostack scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes after the opening whistle. Eighty seconds later, Gerzabek extended the lead and the Cavaliers were off and running.

The Blue and White built a commanding 8-1 cushion after a first period that saw Cabrini outshoot the visitors 24-5 and win seven of the 10 faceoffs.

The Cavaliers showed no let down in the second quarter, pushing their lead to 12-3 at the half. Kostack and Klein paced the attack, combining for 11 points on nine goals and a pair of assists.

Cabrini notched 58 shots in the win, just two off its season high, with 15 Cavaliers attacking the cage. The team's nine turnovers also marked a season low.

Senior Max Tennant scored four times for the Battling Bishop (2-4), while freshman Russell Perchiballi went 10-24 at the faceoff spot and secured seven ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Zach Brasser notched 14 saves in the OWU cage.

The Blue and White will return to action on Saturday, as they welcome Whittier College (5-0) to Edith Robb Dixon Field, Game time is slated for 1pm.
