Last Meeting: Cabrini 9, Gwynedd Mercy 5 (8 inn); Gwynedd Mercy 8, Cabrini 0 (4/29/2018, Gwynedd Valley, PA)
The Griffins built an early 2-0 lead before Cabrini rallied for four runs in fourth, including a steal of home by sophomore
Jess Redding and a two RBI double by classmate
Aysiah Cintron. GMercyU responded with three runs in the sixth to regain the lead, but the Cavaliers had another comeback ready.
Cabrini evened the score at 5-5 on a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh, before
Jenna Rodriguez and
Alexandria Ramos tallied two RBI singles to win the game in the eighth.
Junior
Alexandra Schell tallied a pair of hits, while Cintron drove in two runs for Cabrini. Senior Alex Kinal notched a pair of hits for the Griffins.
The Cavaliers could not generate any offense in the nightcap, as they recorded just two base hits. Sophomore
Casey Scheuren suffered the loss, but allowed just two earned runs on five hits. GMercyU took advantage of a season-high six Cabrini errors to plate six unearned runs.
Senior Rebecca Christoffers and junior Tori Sherwood recorded two base hits each, with Christoffers driving in two runs.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Marywood 9, Cabrini 6; Cabrini 6, Marywood 0 (4/13/2009, Radnor, PA)
Cabrini could not overcome the power of Marywood senior Kirstie Alvarez, who went 3-4 with 2 home runs and six RBI in the opener. Trailing 8-6 in the sixth, the Cavaliers rallied, as sophomore
Jess Redding's bases loaded double cleared the bags. The sophomore scored on a single by senior
Darian Caputo, but Cabrini could not get any closer.
Scheuren and classmate
Amber Seamen collected two hits each, while Redding drove in three runs. Freshman
Grace Stairiker suffered the loss, surrendering five earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Seamen's third inning RBI double was all the offense the Blue and White needed in the nightcap, as Scheuren dominated the pitcher's circle. The sophomore kept the Pacers off balanced, allowing just five base hits with three strike outs to earn the complete game shutout.
Cabrini put the game away with four runs in the fourth, including a perfectly executed double steal as Cintron stole home and Schell's fourth home run in her last five games.
Seamen wet 3-4 with two runs scored, while
Allison Martin and freshman
Emily Wargo notched two base knocks each.
Gwynedd Mercy Last Time Out: Gwynedd Mercy 1, Wesley 0; Wesley 12, Gwynedd Mercy 4 (4/16/2019, Dover, DE)
Despite limited offense, junior pitcher Alexis Gartner kept the Griffins close, as the junior tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just eight hits. GMercy rewarded the junior's effort in the seventh inning, as Christoffers' double scored sophomore Brianna Polly with the game's only run.
Sherwood accounted for two of the Griffins' four hits in the win, while Christoffers and freshman Nicole Floyd also tallied base knocks.
GMercyU built an early lead in the night cap, as it took advantage of two Wesley errors to score three runs in the top of the first. The Griffins added a fourth run in the third, as sophomore Alyssa Cowan's double plated Sherwood.
That would be the end of the offense for the Griffins, as the Wesley offense erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the third before adding two each in the fourth and fifth.
Â
Cowan finished the game with two hits and two RBI, while a quartet of Griffins added one hit each. Polly suffered the loss after surrendering six earned runs on six hits in 2.2 innings of relief. Gartner recorded the start, but was replaced after allowing four earned runs in 2.0 innings.
