Cavaliers Win Inaugural Atlantic East Mike Drass Trophy

LANCASTER, PA – The Cabrini Cavaliers have claimed the inaugural Atlantic East Conference Mike Drass Trophy, the league's all-around sports trophy, and the Men's Commissioner's Award, the league announced this afternoon.

The Blue and White totaled 121 points to win the award, named after the late Mike Drass, former Athletics Director and Football Coach for Wesley College.

Drass was the AD for the Wolverines from May 2003 until his tragic passing in May 2018, while also heading one of the most successful Div. III football programs in the country for 26 seasons. He was a critical piece to the seven founding members of the Atlantic East Conference.

The Cavaliers also claimed the Men's Commissioner's Award with 61 points and finished second in the race for the Women's Commissioner's Cup, as its 60 points fell 10 shy of women's champion Marywood.

The awards are based on a point system for 20 different conference sports in the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons.

In the first year of the Atlantic East Conference, the Blue and White continued its run of success from the Colonial States Athletic Conference. In its 25 year run in the CSAC, Cabrini claimed 37 of the 65 total President's Cups, including 10 of the 17 overall awards.

Cabrini climbed to the top of the Mike Drass Trophy standings on the strength of six Atlantic East championships and four other appearances in conference championships.

The Blue and White swim teams claimed the University's first Atlantic East Conference championship with convincing performances during the three day championship event. The Cavaliers won 16 events and scored 59 top three finishes, while setting 19 team records over the three days.

Head coach Cindy Ikeler and her staff were named Men's Swimming Coaching Staff of the Year. Junior Cameron Mousley was named Men's Swimmer of the Year, while sophomore Tara McCloskey and freshman Marc Consiglio earned Rookie of the Year honors.

The men's golf team claimed its sixth conference championship with a 28 stroke victory at the 36-hole championship. Senior David Gall bested a group of three golfers, including freshman Gerald Haftmann to win the individual title and Golfer of the Year honors. Haftmann was named Rookie of the Year and joined Gall, fellow freshman Daniel Murphy and senior Nicholas Alizzi with top 10 finishes and all-conference accolades.

The Cavaliers continued its run atop the men's tennis standings, as Cabrini cruised to its third consecutive conference title with a 5-0 win over Neumann. Led by Atlantic East Co-Player of the Year junior CJ LaMantia and Coach of the Year, Sean Jaeger '17, the Cavaliers dropped just three sets against conference opposition, as the team extended its conference win streak to 18 matches.

After watching its 58 game conference win streak come to an end, the Cabrini women's lacrosse team regrouped and rolled to its eighth conference championship with a 21-6 win at Marywood. Three-time conference Player of the Year senior Avery Murphy tallied eight goals, 10 points and nine draw controls in the win. The Blue and White continued its postseason run, as it raised its first ever Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) title with a 15-10 win over Drew, marking the 300th career win for head coach Jackie Neary.

The men's lacrosse team captured its 19th consecutive conference title en route to the ultimate prize, the University's first ever NCAA championship. Cabrini extended its NCAA record conference win streak to 121 games before topping Gwynedd Mercy 21-6 behind a career best 11 points from Atlantic East Player of the Year and championship game MVP Jordan Krug. The Blue and White closed its season on a 14-game win streak, avenging both of its regular season losses during a championship run that culminated with a 16-12 victory over Amherst at Lincoln Financial Field.

Cabrini's men's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball and baseball teams also made appearances in their respective Atlantic East Conference championship games, while the Cavaliers' field hockey, women's soccer, men's basketball and softball teams also qualified for the conference tournament.

The Blue and White's women's golf team scored a third place finish in the inaugural Atlantic East women's championship, while the Cavaliers women's and men's cross country teams placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the season-ending conference championship meets.
