GRANTHAM, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team faced a pair of tough opponents today on the final day of the Messiah College Invitational. The Cavaliers suffered a tough five set loss to the host Falcons before dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Calvin College.
Senior
Katrina Shelly paced the Blue and White in its 25-15, 28-26, 25-18, 25-14, 15-13 loss to the tournament's host, pairing a season-high 16 kills with 13 digs.
Junior
Steph Judkins matched the senior's double-double with 13 kill and 11 digs to go with a team-high four service aces.
Sophomore
Hannah Dalton chipped in with 11 kills, three block assists and a pair of service aces. Classmate
Amelia Ballard narrowly missed the double-dip, with 20 assists and nine digs.
Sophomore
Gina Custer added a team-high 19 digs, while freshman
Melanie Cotes-Rivera tallied 1 assists.
Rachel Garratt paired 13 kills and 18 digs for Messiah (8-1), while Mary Underman recorded 21 kills in the victory.
The Cavaliers looked to close their weekend on a high note, but waiting for them were the No. 2 ranked Knights. Cabrini could not overcome an offense that tallied 44 kills to just 11 errors, as Calvin scored a 26-24, 25-6, 25-18 win.
Shelly and Judkins posted eight kills each, combining for 16 of Cabrini's 21 kills. Ballard paired seven assists and eight digs, while Custer and classmate
Lexi Conte scored 16 digs and 10 assists, respectively.
Sarah DeVries led the Knights (9-0) with 16 kills, while Heidi Westra added 12.
The Blue and White (4-6) will look to return to the win column next weekend, as it heads to Hoboken, NJ for the Stevens Invitational. The Cavaliers will face the host Ducks (2-5) on Friday at 8pm, before meeting SUNY New Paltz (5-3) and Stockton (8-2) on Saturday.
