Judkins Break Kills Mark as Volleyball Tops SUNY New Paltz

HOBOKEN, NJ – Junior Steph Judkins moved to the top of the program's kills list today, as the Cavaliers closed the Stevens Invitational with a thrilling 3-2 victory over SUNY New Paltz.

With Judkins' 44 kills through this weekend's three matches, the junior now owns 1,144 career kills, passing the previous mark of 1,143 held by Danielle Carrozza (2011-13).

The victory improved the Blue and White to 5-8 on the year and marks Cabrini's only victory of the weekend after suffering matching 3-1 losses to the host Ducks on Friday and Stockton this morning.

Stockton 3, Cabrini 1 (25-20, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20)
Judkins and senior Katrina Shelly led the Cavaliers with 13 kill each in the loss. Shelly added 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Sophomore Amelia Ballard also recorded a double-dip, pairing 16 assists and 11 digs.

Fellow sophomore Gina Custer led the Blue and White with 20 digs, while freshman Melanie Cotes-Rivera added 13 assists. Sophomore Hannah Dalton chipped in with seven kills and four block assists.  

Stockton 3, Cabrini 1 (25-23, 25-19, 26-24, 25-23)
The Cavaliers suffered their second loss to the Opreys in 11 days, falling in a back and forth four setter.

Shelly scored a team-high 15 kills in the loss, while Judkins added 12, eight digs and three block assists. Dalton posted nine kills to go with four service aces and four block assists.

Cotes-Rivera paired 19 assists and 12 digs for her third career double-double. Ballard handed out 20 assists, while Custer notched 26 digs.

Sophomore Marie Hamilton chipped in with a career high eight kills.

Cabrini 3, SUNY New Paltz 2 (25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 18-25, 18-16)
The Blue and White snapped its seven match losing streak with its thrilling back and forth five set thriller.

Judkins finished the match with 19 kills, just enough to break Carrozza's mark with her final kill of the day late in the deciding fifth set. The junior added 15 digs and four service aces in the victory.

Shelly and Ballard matched Judkins with double-doubles. Shelly paired 19 kills, 13 digs and a pair of aces, while Ballard handed out 22 assists to go with 10 digs.

Custer finished the day with 24 digs and four aces, while Cotes-Rivera added 18 assists. Dalton chipped in with nine kills, two aces, two solo blocks and three block assists.

The Cavaliers will have a few days to rest before returning to action on Thursday, as they travel down the Blue Route to visit Widener University (4-12). First serve is slated for 7pm in Chester, PA.
