GALLOWAY, NJ – A 20th minute penalty stroke proved to be too much for the Cavaliers to overcome, as the Cabrini field hockey team suffered a 2-0 loss at Stockton this afternoon.
The loss dropped the Blue and White to 1-8 on the season, while the Ospreys improved to 9-0.
After a scoreless opening 15 minute period, the Ospreys jumped on the board in the 20th minute, as Gianna Morganti converted a penalty stroke.
The home team carried its slim 1-0 lead through the second quarter, despite a valiant defensive effort by the Cavaliers.
The Blue and White fought off 10 first half penalty corners, as senior goaltender
Noelia Ramirez recorded six of her eight saves before the halftime break.
Stockton did not waste much time in the second half building on its lead, as Issy Gihooley collected a loose ball in front of Cabrini's goal before doubling the Ospreys' advantage in the 35th minute.
The Cavaliers could not overcome their deficit, as the team failed to record a shot in the second half.
While its offense struggled, the Blue and White's defensive effort remained solid throughout the day, holding the Ospreys to just four second half shots and 11 on the day.
Freshman
Olivia Sims led the Blue and White with two shots, while classmate
Maura Tumelty and junior
Gabby Thompson added one each.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, when they head north to Hoboken, NJ to face Stevens Institute (6-3). The opening whistle is slated for 7pm
