Last Meeting: Gwynedd Mercy 88, Cabrini 73 (1/26/2019, Radnor, PA)
The Griffins blew open a tight game with a 20-4 spurt midway through the second half as it cruised to a 88-73 win in Nerney Field House.
The teams went back and forth in the half, but despite owning an early eight point cushion, the Cavaliers could not overcome .375 shooting and trailed 37-33 at the half.
An
Alsmith Saintilus triple evened the score at 43 with 15:18 to play a Griffins' three on the ensuing possession broke the deadlock. Minutes later, GMercyU seized control of the action with a 20-4 run to establish a 69-51 lead with 8:35 to play.
Sophomore
Voshon Mack led Cabrini with 17 points and seven rebounds, while
Ivan Robinson added 16 points.
Jeff Saigafuse paced the Griffins with 29 points, while Clayton Wolfe paired 21 points and 12 boards.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Marymount 90, Cabrini 86 (1/11/2020)
The Cavaliers erased a 12 point deficit in the game's final six minutes to even the score 84 seconds to play, but could not pull ahead, as the Cabrini men's basketball team suffered a tough 90-86 loss to the Marymount Saints.
Trailing 75-63 with just under six minutes to play, the Cavaliers used a 7-0 spurt to pull within five points. Freshman
Jordan Brown and senior
Keith Blassingale further cut into Marymount's lead with back to back threes, before Mack converted buckets on three straight possessions to even the score at 82 with 1:24 left on the clock.
Despite converted jumpers from Blassingale and Brown in the game's final minutes, the Cavaliers could not pull ahead, as Marymount senior Taiga Walker went 4-4 from the free throw line in the final 10 seconds.
Blassingale led the Blue and White with 24 points, five rebounds and five steals. Mack tallied a double-double, pairing 23 points, including 17 in the second half, with 10 rebounds. Brown added a career best 12 points and five assists, while junior
Billy Warren chipped in with eight points and five boards.
Gwynedd Mercy Last Time Out: Gwynedd Mercy 74, Marywood 61 (1/11/2020, Scranton, PA)
Four Griffins scored in double figures, as the Griffins cruised to their third consecutive victory with a 74-61 win at Marywood.
GMercyU could not find its offensive rhythm in the opening 20 minutes, as it shot just .375 in a first half and trailed 30-29 at the half.
Both teams battled for control of a second half that included seven ties and 11 lead changes over the opening 12 minutes of the stanza, but a jumper by freshman Nathaniel Walker at the 7:41 mark gave the Griffins the lead for good.
The bucket sparked a 13-3 run for the Griffins that culminated with senior Rich Dunham's jumper that gave the visitors a commanding 68-57 advantage with 4:16 to play.
Dunham fell just shy of a triple double, posting 26 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in 37 minutes of action. Walker joined senior Austin Harriott with 13 points, as the duo combined for 14 rebounds and six steals.
