Volleyball Falls at F&M

LANCASTER, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team returned to action tonight, as it paid a visit to Franklin & Marshall. The Cavaliers fell to 4-11 on the season after tonight's 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) defeat.

Senior Hannah Dalton paced the Cavaliers with 11 kills, while classmate Victoria Camacho added seven kills. Freshman Sam Heenan paired seven kills and team high 15 digs, one more dig than senior Gina Custer.

Senior Lexi Conte directed the attack with 17 assists and seven digs, while sophomore Melanie Cotes-Rivera notched 15 assists and a pair of service aces.

The first set featured a tight affair that included 11 ties, the final deadlock at 19-19. The diplomats broke the tie with two points that proved to be the difference. F&M built a two point cushion before a Heenan kill pulled the Cavaliers to within 23-21 but a Cabrini service error and F&M service ace put an end to the first set.

Cabrini built an early lead in the second set and established an 11-8 cushion following a Dalton kill. The Diplomats regrouped and seized control of the action. The home side responded with a 5-1 run followed by a 12-4 spurt that ended the set.

F&M carried its momentum into the third frame, taking an early 5-1 lead. The Cavaliers slowly battled back, pulling to within 14-12 on a double block by Dalton and sophomore Lily Baynum. The home team quickly regained control with four straight points to rebuild its six point cushion.

The Cavaliers will turn their collective attention to conference play on Wednesday, when they welcome Gwynedd Mercy to Nerney Field House. First serve is slated for 7pm.
