Eric Schaefer collected his 300th career victory tonight, as the Cabrini volleyball team opened Atlantic East Conference play with a comfortable 3-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy.
Senior
Hannah Dalton led the Cavaliers to the 25-18, 25-20, 25-12 win with her ninth double-double after pairing 18 kills and 18 digs.
Freshman
Sam Heenan also recorded a double dip with 11 kills and 13 digs, while senior
Victoria Camacho added seven kills.
Senior
Lexi Conte directed the offense to the tune of 18 assists, two more than sophomore
Melanie Cotes-Rivera, while senior
Gina Custer added 17 digs and three service aces.
The Cavaliers never allowed the home side to settle into tonight's action, holding the Griffins to just six kills in the opening set. Cabrini used a pair of 7-1 runs to seize control of the set, establishing a 19-12 lead late in the frame.
The second set proved to be a much tighter affair. Wth the score tied at 14, the Cavaliers ran off five straight points to take a 19-14 lead, but the home team battled back to event the score at 20. A Heenan kill stopped the Griffins' run before the Blue and White notched the final four points in the set,
The Cavaliers carried their momentum into the third frame, scoring the first six points of the third set. Gwynedd Mercy pulled to within 12-8, but the Cavaliers responded with a 6-0 run to build an insurmountable 18-8 lead.
In his 14-plus seasons on the Cabrini sideline, Schaefer has led the Blue and White to 10 conference championship matches with eight titles and eight NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Cavaliers will return to Nerney Field House on Thursday, when they host Marywood University. First serve is scheduled for 7pm.
