ASTON, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team extended its win streak to three today, as it cruised to a 6-0 victory at Neumann.
The Cavaliers improved to 2-0 in the Atlantic East Conference with a dominating performance that saw the Blue and White outshoot the home team 35-1 and record 17 penalty corners.
Despite outshooting the Knights 11-0 in the first quarter, it took the Cavaliers until the final seconds to get through the Neumann defense. Senior
Allison Martin opened the scoring, converting a pass from sophomore
Caroline Gallagher.
Cabrini seized control of the action with three goals in a span of 5:33 of the second quarter.
Freshman
Adrianna Jones started the run in the 18th minute, tipping in a cross from junior
Olivia Sims. Just over a minute later, Sims added her name to the score sheet off another Gallagher service.
Sophomore
Daly Ewing extended the lead to 4-0 in the 23rd minute after a pass from senior
Kaitlyn Martin.
The score remained 4-0 until the 53rd minute, when Ewing poked the ball into the cage after a scrum in front of the Neumann goal. Cabrini closed the scoring in the 59th minute, when Jones notched her second marker of the night.
Cabrini's 35 shots marked the most the team has recorded since posting 37 attempts against Neumann on Oct. 12, 2019, while it last forced 17 penalty corners on Oct. 25, 2017 against Notre Dame (MD).
In addition to her three assists on the night, Gallagher accounted for 10 of the Cavaliers' shots, while
Allison Martin adding eight and Jones six.
Sophomore goaltender
Courtney Keith needed just one save to earn her third shutout of the season.
The Blue and White will look to extend its win streak on Saturday. When it visits Immaculata University. The opening whistle is slated for 12pm in Immaculata, PA.
