Volleyball Scores 3-1 Win at Neumann

ASTON, PA – Three Cavaliers recorded at least nine kills, as the Cabrini volleyball team emerged with a 3-1 victory at Neumann University.

Freshman Sam Heenan posted her fifth consecutive double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs, as the 25-18, 18-25, 28-26, 25-18 win improved the Blue and White to 3-0 in the Atlantic East Conference.

Senior Victoria Camacho added a career best 13 kills and matched a season high with five total blocks. Classmate Hannah Dalton nine kills and 15 digs.

Senior Melanie Cotes-Rivera directed the attack to the tune of 24 assists, while senior Lexi Conte handed out 12 assists. Fellow senior Gina Custer notched 23 digs.

After falling behind in the opening set, the Cavaliers used an 8-1 run to turn a 10-8 deficit into a 16-11 advantage Minutes later, a Dalton service ace capped a 5-0 run that gave Cabrini a commanding 22-14 lead.

The Knights turned the tables in the second set, running out to a 10-3 lead, before extending its advantage to 19-10. The Blue and White tried to mount a late rally, pulling to within 23-18, but a service error and Neumann kill evened the score at one set apiece.

Neither team could gain an advantage in a third set that included 22 ties and the largest lead at 7-4. With the score tied at 23, the Cavaliers had to fight off three Neumann set points, with kills by Camacho and Heenan extending the set. The rookie's final kill of the frame leveled the score at 26-26 before back to back Neumann attack errors gave Cabrini the set.

The Cavaliers built an early 6-1 lead and never allowed the Knights to even the score. The home side kept the score tight, pulling to within 16-14, but the Cavaliers responded with 6-0 run, punctuated by a double block by Heenan and sophomore Lily Baynum than gave Cabrini a 22-14 lead.  

Bre hickey led Neumann with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Dani Smith added 28 assists.

The Cavaliers will hit the road on Friday for a pair of matches. Cabrini will travel to Catholic University in Washington to face the host Cardinals at 1pm and Salisbury at 3pm.
