RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team improved to 5-0 in the Atlantic East Conference tonight, as it celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 victory over Immaculata.
By virtue of tonight's 25-12, 25-5, 25-19 win, the Cavaliers have clinched a top two seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament. The Blue and White will close its conference slate on Wednesday night as it visits two-time reigning league champion, Marymount. The Saints enter the weekend with a. 4-0 league mark.
Prior to tonight's action, Cabrini celebrated the careers of its three seniors,
Lexi Conte,
Gina Custer and
Hannah Dalton. As a group, these ladies have combined for 799 kills, 795 assists, 1,983 digs and 212 service aces, while leading the Blue and White to 47 wins, including a 15-2 record in conference play.
As one might expect, these ladies also led the Cavaliers in tonight's victory. Dalton paired 18 kills and 11 digs for her 12
th double-double of the season. Conte added 18 assists, while Custer finished with 14 digs. Each of the trio also notched a pair of service aces.
Sophomore
Melanie Cotes-Rivera added a career best seven service aces to her 15 assists, while freshman
Sam Heenan paired six kills and six digs. Sophomore
Lily Baynum added five kills, one more than junior
Victoria Camacho.
The Cavaliers wasted little time in seizing control of the action, as they won eight of the first nine points and used a string of eight consecutive points to establish a 20-4 advantage in the opening set.
Cabrini repeated its efforts in the second set, scoring the first eight points of the frame. Minutes later, another 8-0 spurt pushed the lead to 20-4.
The Mighty Macs kept the third set much tighter. Despite only trailing 1-0, Cabrini could not pull away. The home team led 10-8 before using 7-1 run to establish a more comfortable 17-9 lead.
The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy tonight's win, as they will return to the Nerney Field House hardwood on Saturday morning at 11am, when they play host to Widener and Washington & Lee for a tri-match. Cabrini will face the Pride at 11 and the Generals at 3pm, with the visitors to meet in a neutral site match at 1pm.
