2nd Half Goals, Defense Lift Field Hockey over Gwynedd Mercy

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team scored its fifth consecutive win today, as the Cavaliers topped Gwynedd Mercy 2-1 at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The win improved the Blue and White to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the Atlantic East Conference, securing one of the top two seeds in the upcoming tournament. The win also snapped a string of four consecutive shutout losses to the Griffins.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Griffins opened the scoring in the 27th minute on a Lauren Jani goal.

Despite outshooting the visitors 6-2 in the first and second periods, the Blue and White entered the third quarter trailing 1-0.

The Cavaliers turned up their pressure to open the third quarter and it paid off in the 36th minute, as freshman Sara Hussey's unassisted marker leveled the score.

The score remained tied entering the final quarter, but sophomore Caroline Gallagher needed just 10 seconds of the fourth to record the game-winner. The sophomore netted her 12th goal of the season putting the Blue and White ahead for good.

The Cabrini defensive effort sealed the victory, holding the Griffins without a shot throughout the final period.

Gallagher accounted for eight of Cabrini's 16 shots and became just the 18th player in program history to record 31 points in a season.

Hussey and senior Alison Martin added three shots each. Freshman goaltender Courtney Keith recorded two saves to secure her ninth win of the season.

The Cavaliers will briefly step put of conference play on Tuesday, as they celebrate Senior Night with a visit from Susquehanna University. The opening whistle is slated for 7pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
