ADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team saw its five game win streak come to an end, as the Cavaliers suffered a 2-0 loss to Susquehanna tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Prior to tonight's action, the Blue and White honored its six seniors,
Shannon Agnew,
Lily Bonner,
Allison Martin,
Kaitlyn Martin,
Lindsey Pozaic and
Kelly Sweeney.
This group has helped the Cavaliers to 16 victories and soon to be three Atlantic East Conference tournament appearances. In their 274 appearances, they have amassed 63 points on 25 goals and 13 assists to go with six defensive saves.
The Cavaliers also held their annual Play 4 the Cure game this evening. Prior to coming out for warm-ups, the club heard from former Temple All-American and USA national lacrosse team member Claudia Ovchinniko, who discussed her recent bout with breast cancer. The team also wore t-shirts with Ovchinhiko's number 34 in her honor.
Susquehanna opened the scoring late in the first quarter, as sophomore Sara McAndrews' pass from the top of the circle found senior Annalee Smith. The would be the only marker of the first half, as the Blue and White fought off six shots and four penalty corners for the visitors.
The Cavaliers looked to regain their footing in the second half, but struggled to find the right combination on the offensive side of the pitch.
The River Hawks took advantage, adding their second goal on a 45th minute penalty by Smith.
Sweeney recorded the lone shot for the Cavaliers, while freshman goaltender
Courtney Keith tallied three saves in the losing effort.
The Cavaliers will close their regular season slate on Thursday, when they travel to St. Mary's, MD to face the Seahawks with the number one seed in the conference tournament at stake. Both teams will enter the 7pm showdown with identical 4-0 league records.
