Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 Win over Marywood

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the Atlantic East Conference after tonight's 3-0 victory over Marywood University inside Nerney Field House.

Freshman Sam Heenan paired 16 kills and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season to lead the Cavaliers to the 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 victory.

Senior Hannah Dalton added nine kills, two more than classmate Victoria Camacho, and nine digs.

Sophomore Melanie Cotes-Rivera added 17 assists and eight digs, while senior Lexi Conte handed out 16 assists. Fellow senior Gina Custer recorded a team-high 16 digs.

The Blue and White got off to a slow start, as the Pacers built an early 6-1 lead. The Cavaliers then used an 11-2 spurt to gain control of the action. Cabrini took its first lead at 10-9 and minutes later held a commanding 18-12 advantage.

The Cavaliers carried their momentum into the second frame, opening a 14-2 lead early in the action. Marywood kept the score within reach, pulling to within five points on several occasions, but 19-14 lead, Cabrini six of the set's final seven points to take a 2-0 lead.

The Pacers opened the third set on a 6-2 run before the Cavaliers found their rhythm. Cabrini responded with a 13-2 spurt of its own to take a 15-8 lead. Marywood would not go quietly, as it chipped away at its deficit.

Cabrini's lead dwindled to 22-18 before a pair of Heenan kills and a Marywood attack error closed the action.

Shannon Corr led the Pacers with 10 kills and nine digs, while Sara Burgos added 22 assists.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, when they host Stockton and SUNY Cortland for a tri-match. Cabrini will face Stockton at 11am and SUNY Cortland at 3pm, with the two visitors to meet at 1pm.
