#6 Men's Lacrosse Cruises to 15-7 Win at Marywood

SCRANTON, PA – The No. 6 Cavaliers improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic East Conference today, as Cabrini scored a 15-7 victory at Marywood.

Senior Ty Kostack etched his name in the Blue and White record book, as his five points on three goals and two assists put him over the 200 career point plateau, becoming the 12th Cavalier to reach the milestone.

Fellow senior Matt LoParo paced the Cabrini attack, matching a season best with eight points on six goals and two dimes. Fellow senior Jake Klein paired two goals and two helpers, while freshman Max Drift added two markers and six ground balls.

Senior Tommy DeLuca anchored the defensive attack with three caused turnovers and six ground balls, while four other Cavaliers forced two Marywood miscues. Sophomore goaltender Matt Sageder added four saves in the win.

Much of Cabrini's success came from a dominant performance at the faceoff spot, where the club won 20 of the game's 25 draws. Junior Matthew Ries and sophomore Jake Huey combined to go 18-23 and secure seven ground balls.

After a tightly contested first quarter, the Pacers scored two goals early in the second period to take a 3-2 lead, marking the first time in more than 617 minutes that the Cavaliers have trailed in a conference regular season game, a streak that dates back to the first quarter of a 16-6 win over Gwynedd Mercy on April 18, 2018.

The deficit was short-lived, as Kostack's second goal sparked Cabrini on a run of 10 unanswered goals spanning the second and third quarters.

The Cavaliers extended their 8-3 halftime cushion early in the third quarter, as LoParo netted four consecutive goals over the first six minutes of the third, handing the visitors a 12-3 lead with 9:48 left in the quarter.

Cabrini held the Pacers to just 20 shots on the day and pressured the home side into 33 turnovers and just 22-39 in clear attempts.

The Cavaliers also scooped 73 ground balls, the most since April 10, 2013 when the Blue and White secured 75 loose balls in a 27-2 win over Rosemont. Fourteen Cavaliers accounted for at least three ground balls each, with senior Bobby Cressman joining DeLuca, Sageder and Drift with at least five on the day.

The Blue and White recorded 63 total shots, including 43 on target, among their best outputs of the season, but Marywood goaltender was up to the task, recording 28 saves and nine ground balls in the loss.

Aiden Kilkenny led the Pacers (3-3, 3-1 Atlantic East) with four goals, while Jeff Johnsen paired a goal and an assist. Seth Croll also corralled seven ground balls.

The Cavaliers will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday, as they celebrate Senior Day with a visit from Neumann University (4-2, 3-1 Atlantic East). The opening faceoff is slated for 1pm.
