GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team clinched the top seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament today, as it rolled to a 22-3 victory at Gwynedd Mercy.
The No. 6 Cavaliers improved to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference with their sixth consecutive victory. The win also extended the Blue and White's NCAA-record conference win streak to 127 games.
The Cavaliers seized control early in the action, scoring the game's first eight goals. Cabrini outshot the Griffins 29-4 in the opening 30 minutes and carried a comfortable 11-1 lead into the halftime break.
Cabrini emerged from the halftime break with a 7-0 spurt, recording 21 shots to just two for Gwynedd Mercy, extending its lead to 18-1.
Cabrini's balanced attack was on display today, as 11 Cavaliers marked the scoring column, led by senior
Matt LoParo. The senior matched season highs with six goals and eight points. Fellow senior
Ty Kostack and junior
Griffin Shira added four points each, combining for five goals and three helpers.
Also among the goal scorers was junior
Jason Archer, who netted his first career goal.
The Cavaliers dominated the faceoff spot, winning 24 of the game's 28 draws. Junior
Matthew Ries went 8-11, while sophomore
Jake Huey claimed each of his eight chances.
While the Blue and White recorded north of 60 shots for the fifth time this season, the club's defensive pressure kept the Griffins off balance. The home team recorded just 10 shots, while committing 29 turnovers and converting just 18 of 33 clearing chances.

the victory.
Goaltender Chase McFeeley recorded 10 first half saves for the Griffins (2-5, 2-3 Atlantic East).
The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Friday night, as they welcome Div. I Penn to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The reigning Div. III national champions will host the reigning Ivy League champions at 6:30pm.
