HAVERFORD, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team suffered three losses at this weekend's Haverford Fords Invitational, falling to 1-6 on the season.
The Blue and White fell to Elizabethtown 3-1 on Friday night, before dropping 3-1 and 3-0 results to Eastern and Haverford on Saturday.
Senior
Gina Custer led the Cavaliers with 67 digs on the weekend, and in the process, became the seventh player in program history to record 1,000 career digs.
Classmate
Hannah Dalton sparked the offense with 43 kills and 33 digs, while freshman
Sam Heenan recorded 28 kills and sophomore Melanie Cotes-Rivers 60 assists.
Elizabethtown 3, Cabrini 1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17)
Dalton opened the weekend with an impressive 17 kill, 16 dig performance, while Custer added a season-high 37 digs in the losing effort. Cotes-Rivera narrowly missed a double-double, pairing a career high 33 assists with eight digs. Heenan chipped in with eight kills and 12 digs.
Eastern 3, Cabrini 1 (15-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-13)
With the match tied a one set apiece and the Cavaliers leading 11-10, the Eagles scored eight of the next nine points to take a commanding 18-12 lead. Minutes later, Cabrini pulled to within 23-21 before fighting off a pair of set points before Eastern secured the set and a decisive lead in the match.
Dalton notched her second double dip of the tournament, pairing 16 kills and 10 digs, while Heenan added a season high 12 kills. Cotes-Rivera and senior
Lexi Conte tallied 14 assists each, while Custer and junior
Morgan Mendick combined for 23 digs.
Haverford 3, Cabrini 0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-20)
The Cavaliers never found their rhythm in the weekend's finale, pairing 19 attack errors with 10 receiving errors.
Custer entered the record book midway through the match before finishing with a match high 18 digs. Dalton led the way with 10 kills and eight digs, while Heenan added eight kills. Like Dalton, Cotes-Rivers and Conte narrowly missed double-doubles, combining for 25 assists and 15 digs.
The Cavaliers will look to regroup before returning to the court on Friday to face Moravian and Pitt-Bradford at the Neumann Knights Invitational.
