Field Hockey Snaps Streak with 2-1 Win over Stockton

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team snapped its three game losing streak today at Edith Robb Dixon Field, scoring a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-1 victory over Stockton.

The win improved the Cavaliers to 4-3, while handing the Ospreys their first loss in six games this season.

After an evenly played first quarter, the Blue and White found some offensive rhythm in the second period.

Cabrini outshot the visitors 9-2 in the stanza and earned four penalty corners to just one for Stockton, but the Cavaliers could not find the back of the cage, as the score sheet remained clean.

The Cavaliers recorded all three of the shot in the third quarter, with sophomore Caroline Gallagher's 44th minute attempt paying dividends. The sophomore's fifth goal of the season put the Blue and White ahead 1-0.

Cabrini doubled its lead in the opening minute of the fourth, as senior Allison Martin's pass found classmate Kelly Sweeney to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

The Ospreys responded two minutes later, when Madison Maguire's shot beat Cabrini's freshman goaltender Courtney Keith.

Following the tally, the Cavaliers regained control of the action recording six shots and two penalty corners over the next 12 plus minutes, while holding Stockton to just one shot.

The Cavaliers outshot Stockton 21-7 on the day, including 14-5 in shots on goals, with Gallagher accounting for 12 attempts and Martin six.

Keith was called on for three saves, all in the first half, while classmate Morgan McClintock added a defensive save.

Osprey's goaltender Kylie Mitchell suffered the loss despite notching 10 saves.

The Cavaliers have a few days off to enjoy the victory before returning to action on Wednesday, when they visit Swarthmore. Game time is set for 7pm.
