ASTON, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday before suffering a tough five set loss to close the Neumann Knights Invitational.
This weekend's results dropped the Cavaliers to 2-9 on the season.
Cabrini 3, Moravian 0
Senior
Hannah Dalton recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the opener, as her 19 kills and 16 digs helped the Blue and White score a 26-24, 25-23, 25-22 win over Moravian.
Freshman
Sam Heenan narrowly missed the double-dip as well, finishing the match with nine kills and 10 digs. Senior
Lexi Conte directed the Cabrini attack to the tune of 20 assists, while classmate
Gina Custer matched Dalton with 16 digs.
Pitt-Bradford 3, Cabrini 0
The Cavaliers could not carry their momentum into the night cap, falling to Pitt-Bradford 25-18, 25-19, 25-18. While the Blue and White had just two fewer kills than UPB (36-34), Cabrini's 27 attack errors proved to be costly.
Once again, it was Dalton and Heenan powering the Cabrini offense. The senior tallied a match-high 15 kills, while the rookie added 11. Sophomore
Melanie Cotes-Rivera recorded 15 assists, three more than Conte. Custer accounted for 12 of the Cavaliers' 32 digs in the loss.
Messiah 3, Cabrini 2
The Cavaliers looked to rally in today's finale, but, after rallying from down two sets to one, Cabrini faltered in the fifth set, losing 24-26, 25-17, 25-15, 16-25, 15-6.
Dalton continued her season-long double-double count with 21 kills and 11 digs to go with three service aces and three total blocks. Fellow senior
Victoria Camacho added seven kills, one more than sophomores
Lily Baynum and
Rachael Boyle.
The duo of Cotes-Rivera and Conte combined for 38 assists and 12 digs, while Custer notched 17 digs.
Dalton was one of eight players named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 55 kills, 33 digs and eight total blocks.
The Cavaliers will return to Nerney Field House on Thursday, when they play host to Penn State Berks First serve is scheduled for 7pm.
