Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Ends Layoff with 4-0 Win

RADNOR, PA – It had been almost 22 full months since the Cabrini field hockey team last stepped on a field for a game, but the Cavaliers made the most of their return to action tonight.

The Blue and White rolled to a 4-0 season opening victory over the Delaware Valley University Aggies tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Sophomore Caroline Gallagher got the home team on the board in the 18th minute after dribbling through the Aggies defense and finding the back of the cage.

Despite outshooting the visitors 7-1 in the opening two quarters, the Cavaliers held just a slim 1-0 advantage at the halftime break.

Gallagher marked her second goal of the night in spectacular fashion in the 37th minute, as the sophomore carried the ball nearly half the field through the Delaware Valley defense before netting her second of the night.

Cabrini added to its lead in the final seconds of the stanza, as senior Allison Martin extended the lead to 3-0 just before the third quarter buzzer. Classmate Kelly Sweeney closed the scoring in the 55th minute, converting a pass from freshman Adrianna Jones

Freshman goaltender Courtney Keith recorded two saves in her collegiate debut and anchored a Cabrini defensive effort that held the Aggies to just five shots on the night.

Gallagher finished the night with nine of Cabrini's 15 shots, as the home team forced eight penalty corners to just five for the Aggies.

The Cavaliers will look to build a win streak this weekend, as they play two games at the Drew Fall Festival. Cabrini will face the host Rangers on Saturday and Manhattanville on Sunday.  Both contests are slated for 12 non starts in Madison, NJ.
