Field Hockey Stays Hot at Drew

MADISON, NJ - The Cavaliers carried the momentum from Thursday's season-opening victory into today's action, as the Cabrini field hockey team scored a 4-1 win at Drew.

At 2-0 on the early season, the Blue and White is just one win from matching its season total from the 2019 campaign.

Senior Allison Martin led an offensive attack that outshot the host 26-6, including 15 shots on target. The senior scored three goals on the day, doubling her career total, on just five shots.

Sophomore Caroline Gallagher added the remaining marker for the Cavaliers and recorded a game-high 14 shots.

The Cavaliers' defensive effort was just as strong, holding Drew to just three shots in the second, third and fourth quarters combined and surrendering just four penalty corners. Freshman goaltender Courtney Keith secured her second victory with five saves.

The Rangers opened the scoring in the eighth minute, as Alexa Thomas scored off a Keith save. Cabrini responded just one minute later, when Gallagher dribbled into the scoring area and beat Drew netminder Emily Sheridan.

The score remained deadlocked until the final minute of the second quarter, when freshman Morgan McClintock found Martin for a goal and a lead the visitors would not relinquish.

Despite outshooting the Rangers 6-0 and forcing four penalty corners in the third stanza, the Cavaliers could not extend their lead.

Drew pressed for the game-tying goal early in the fourth, but Cabrini's defense stood firm. The defensive stand paid off in the 50th minute, when junior Maura Tumelty found Martin for her second goal of the day.

The senior returned to the scoring column seven minutes later, when twin sister Kaitlyn Martin's centering pass found Allison Martin for a redirection goal.

Trisha Dominick led Drew (0-1) with two shots, while goaltender Emily Sheridan recorded 10 saves.

The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy today's win, as they will face Manhattanville tomorrow at 12 noon to end their experience at the Drew Fall Festival.
