Field Hockey Stays Unbeaten with 6-0 Win

MADISON, NJ - The Cavaliers continued their hot start to the 2021 season with today's 6-0 win over Manhattanville at the Drew University Fall Festival.

The win improved the Blue and White to 3-0 on the year, matching the team's 2019 win total. In those three victories, the Cavaliers have outscored their opponents 14-1 after recording just 19 goals in 2019.

The Blue and White wasted little time in seizing control of the action, as junior Olivia Sims found freshman Adrianna Jones on the left post for the game's first goal just 34 seconds after the opening whistle. Cabrini doubled its lead 10 minutes later, when another Sims dish connected with classmate Maura Tumelty.

The Valiants looked to get on the board early in the second quarter, but freshman goaltender Courtney Keith was up to the task, recording three of her 11 saves in the first minute of the period. The Cavaliers took advantage of Keith's hard work in the 18th minute, when sophomore Sara Hussey redirected a shot from fellow rookie Caroline Gallagher into the back of the cage.

Cabrini extended its lead to a commanding 4-0 in the 27th minute, when Jones' crossing pass found senior Allison Martin for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Senior Kelly Sweeney added to the Cavaliers' advantage in teh 34th minute, as she collected a Jones' pass and deposited the ball inside the right post for a 5-0 lead.

Jones added her second goal of the afternoon in the 41st minute, redirecting a Gallagher blast into the Manhattanville cage.

While the Cavaliers carried their 6-0 cushion into the game's final minutes, it was Keith who battled to maintain her second career shutout. The rookie netminder recorded four saves in the final three minutes to keep the Valiants off the board.

Hussey and Jones marked their first career goals, while Sweeney's marker was the second of her career.

Cabrini will look to stay perfect on Wednesday, when they pay a visit to Widener. The opening whistle is scheduled for 7pm in Chester, PA.
