CHESTER, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team saw its three game win streak come to an end tonight, as the Cavaliers suffered a 3-1 loss at Widener.
The Pride grabbed an early advantage converting a second minute penalty corner into the game's first goal. Widener doubled its lead in the eighth minute before the Cavaliers answered late in the opening period.
With just over two minutes left in the first quarter, sophomore
Caroline Gallagher scored an unassisted tally, her fourth marker of the campaign.
The Blue and White struggled to find its offense throughout the game, as the visitors recorded just one shot through 45 minutes of action. Meanwhile, the Pride could not take advantage, taking just five shots through three periods.
Widener added an insurance goal in the 49th minute. The Cavaliers added a late push, recording three shots and three penalty corners in the game's final three minutes to no avail.
The Cavaliers forced 10 penalty corners to seven for the Pride, but fell on the short end of an 8-4 shot count, including 6-2 in shots on goal.
Gallagher accounted for all four of the Blue and White's shots, while freshman goaltender
Courtney Keith notched three saves.
The Cavaliers will try to get back in the win column on Saturday, when they pay a visit to Gettysburg. Game time is slated for 4:30pm.
