#13 Men's Lacrosse Scores 15-12 Win at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team earned its first win streak of the season today, as the No. 13 Cavaliers held on for a 15-12 victory at DeSales University.

Junior Austin Bolton had a career day, leading the Blue and White with career highs of seven points, four goals and three assists. Senior Dillon McManus added a career high with six points and four assists.

Freshman Jake Schneider added three goals, one more than junior Mikey Vanaman, as eight Cavaliers marked the scoring column.

Among today's scorers was faceoff specialist Jake Huey, who won 15 of his 28 changes at the X, scored a goal, scooped eight ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.

Senior Zach Kaut and junior Kutyla matched Huey with two caused turnovers, while Kaut scooped four ground balls, one more than Schneider, senior Matt Hughes and junior Peter Hewitt.    

Graduate student Matt Nestler secured the victory, recording 19 saves, a ground ball and a caused turnover between the Blue and White pipes.

Bolton got the Cavaliers off to a good start, scoring the game's first goal less than foru minutes after the opening whistle. After a Bulldogs marker, the Blue and White tallied three unanswered goals, including freshman Brady Rauner's first career goal.

DeSales notched a late first period goal, but Cabrini carried a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.

Sophomore Max Drift's man-up goal and McManus' second goal of the afternoon pushed the lead to 4-2. Goals by Bolton and Schneider pushed the lead to 8-3 with under four minutes left in the second, but DeSales would not let the Cavaliers pull away, scoring two goals in the final 2:17 of the period to pull within 8-5 at the half.

An early Schneider goal and graduate student Jake Goss' second career goal pushed the lead to 10-5 early in the third before back to back Bulldogs' markers cut the lead back to three goals at the 8:25 mark.

The Cavaliers then put some distance between themselves and their hosts, as Huey, Bolton and Vanaman scored goals during a 4-0 spurt over a five minute span late in the third.

The scoring run payed off in the fourth, as DeSales scored five of the game's last six goals, but the Blue and White defense held the Bulldogs to just two shots on goal over the final 7:50.

The Cavaliers recorded a season high 55 shots in the win, with Vanaman recording 10, two more than Drift. The Blue and White's 11 caused turnovers also marked a season best.

Zach Bowen and Nate Perry combined for six goals and six assists for DeSales, while netminder Quinten Lyons posted 20 saves in the loss.

The Cavaliers will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday, when they play host to Colorado College. The opening faceoff is slated for 3pm.
