Men's Lacrosse Opens Conference Play with Resounding Win

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team opened its Atlantic East Conference slate with a resounding 29-1 victory at Centenary.

The No. 12 Cavaliers' fifth consecutive victory also extended their NCAA-record conference game win streak to 128 contests.

Eighteen Cavaliers marked the scoring column today, as the club marked season highs in goals and assists, while dominating the faceoff X.

Juniors Mikey Vanaman and Dillon McManus led the Blue and White, combining for 13 points, with Vanaman notching a career best five assists to go with his three goals.

The juniors were just two of the four Cavaliers to record hat tricks, as sophomore Julian Varona and freshman Clayton Hollinger also scored three goals. Fellow rookie Zach Thomas matched McManus and Hollinger with five points, pairing two goals and three assists, the freshman's first career points.

Thomas joined classmates Jason Fridge, Mason Lenart and Nick Mormando and junior Daniel Thames in recording their first career goals.

Cabrini's offensive performance was sparked with a 29-33 performance at the faceoff spot. Senior Jake Huey won each of his seven draws, while sophomore John McCormick and freshman Tyler Carroll went 12-13 and 10-13, respectively. The trio also combined for 20 ground balls.

Sophomore Jake Cavanaugh caused three turnovers, anchoring a defense that allowed Centenary to fire just nine shots. Senior Matt Young added two caused turnovers, as Cabrini matched a season high with 14 forced miscues.

Sophomore goaltender Brendan King tallied a pair of saves to earn his first career victory. Junior Rob Pensabene and freshman Hunter Waldron also saw action in the Blue and White cage, combining for three saves.

Ronan Bova scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, accounting for four of the club's nine shots. Senior Christopher Festa paired six caused turnovers and seven ground balls, while freshman goaltender Travis Austin tallied seven saves.

The Cavaliers will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday, when they play host to Immaculata University. The opening faceoff is slated for 3pm.
